Every law student understands the importance of finding the right firm for a clerkship before their final year of law school. If you are searching for an environment to flourish both personally and professionally with a potential opportunity for permanent employment upon graduation, apply to the ZKS Summer Associate Program.
As part of our commitment to developing and supporting the young legal community in Florida, ZKS is proud to employ law students for the summer following their 2L year and in preparation for their final year in law school.
Why work at ZKS
The ZKS Summer Associate Program is a twelve-week rotation through the three major sections of the firm: Commercial and Commercial Litigation, Workers’ Compensation, and Personal Injury Defense Litigation. In each section, you will have the opportunity to attend hearings and depositions, mediations and closings, draft motions and pleadings, and participate in client meetings.
To make your clerkship experience as valuable as possible, you will be partnered with an established ZKS attorney as a mentor to help you navigate the expectations of each rotation and act as a liaison throughout the duration of the program. The Summer Associate Program is an opportunity for ZKS to get to know you both professionally and personally. ZKS Summer Associates will participate in attorney lunches, social events, and out-of-office community service events in addition to Clerk Day, which is a day out of the office for the Summer Associates and their mentors to visit one of the many exciting attractions that Orlando has to offer.
As a Summer Associate at ZKS, you will experience these benefits and more:
• Paid clerkship
• Potential for permanent employment to the most outstanding candidates after graduation and passing the Florida Bar
• Highly collaborative, social environment
• Experience in multidimensional practice areas
• Development of your legal career path
• Guidance from mentors
• Recognition at a firm with a strong reputation in its various practice areas.
We value what our Summer Associates bring to the team. That is why we search for candidates that will fit within the ZKS culture to foster a mutually beneficial relationship throughout the clerkship. We are looking for Summer Associates who:
• Rank within the top 20th percentile of their class
• Participate in law review, moot court, and journals
• Show involvement in their community and commitment to community service
• Demonstrate strong advocacy and writing skills
How long is the Summer Associate Program?
The program is 12 weeks during the summer.
Will I be able to gain experience in multiple practice areas during the Summer Associate Program?
Absolutely. Our program operates on a rotation where you will be staggered into the three major sections of the firm to gain experience in each. Upon completing the program, we will consult with you about which section you’re most interested in to help you gain insight into the path you want for your legal career.
Is the clerkship paid?
Yes, the Summer Associate Program is a paid work opportunity.
Is the Summer Associate Program the same as an internship?
The Summer Associate Program is different from an internship — Summer Associates work full-time in a paid position and interns work part-time for course credit.
How can I apply for an internship at ZKS?
ZKS internship opportunities are available to law students who are interested in working a few hours per week for course credit. If you want an internship at our firm, inquire through your law school for the opportunity to meet with our team.
Where does ZKS typically recruit for Summer Associates?
ZKS typically participates in the on-campus interviews (OCI) for the University of Florida, Florida State University, and the Southeastern Minority Job Fair. If you are a law school student, we encourage applications through your school’s OCI process. ZKS will also accept resumes for interested candidates at firstname.lastname@example.org.
What our team members have to say
I am so proud to have been part of the ZKS Summer Associate program. Although I was extended internship offers from other firms, none offered the breadth of experience and depth of knowledge that ZKS did. The three months I spent as a summer associate provided such a great cross section of the lawyering profession, exposing me to litigation, transactional work, research, writing, customer service, and more. It also helped me to confirm which areas I wanted to practice in after graduation and which areas weren’t for me. Best of all, I got to do it in a polished, professional environment with great people! Couldn’t ask for more.
