Ty Martin is a senior associate in ZKS’s Corporate Group.

Martin focuses his practice on transactional matters including mergers and acquisitions, lending, contract formation and negotiation, regulatory and licensing support, strategic business planning, risk management, compliance, corporate formation, labor and employment law, and advising on other general corporate and commercial activities. Martin also advises clients on privacy, data, and security matters, including GDPR, CCPA, CPA, and VCDPA readiness. He is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals.

A former Assistant Attorney General, Martin led Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody’s statewide-Military & Veterans Assistance Program, where he worked to protect the nearly 1.5 million veterans and 100,000 servicemembers in Florida from those seeking to defraud them. Prior to his time with the Attorney General, Martin worked as corporate counsel at the fourth largest death-care company in the country. Reporting directly to its senior vice president, general counsel & corporate secretary, Martin assisted with all legal and regulatory matters, including real estate, M&A, litigation, contracts, human resource consulting, and compliance. Martin also held an in-house position at a large Florida-based trade association, where he served as counsel on an affiliated state-wide affordable housing charity. In addition, Martin worked as an adjunct professor, teaching real property law and business law courses to undergraduates at a state college in Florida.

As a law student, Martin served as an intern to U.S. District Court Judge (and U.S. Army veteran) John Antoon II, and worked as a spring associate at a notable central Florida-based law firm. He served as the liaison to the local chapter of Federal Bar Association and received the American Bar Association’s Communications Law scholarship. He represented indigent clients as a student-attorney in the Homelessness and Legal Advocacy Clinic, and was the recipient of a merit scholarship and named to the Dean’s List on numerous occasions. In addition, Martin served on the Editorial Board of the Law Review as its Notes & Comments Editor, where, among other things, he planned and successfully executed its prestigious write-on competition. Martin is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and began his legal career in private practice in south and central Florida focusing on litigation.

Martin holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence, with honors, from Florida A&M University; a Bachelor of Arts, with highest honors, from Florida Gulf Coast University; an Associate of Arts from Saint Leo University; and is currently a candidate for a Master of Business Administration degree from Florida Gulf Coast University.
